These
birds are certainly a winter treat for any lover of wildlife. They
are forced across to the UK in winter, from Siberia/Scandinavia
in search of good feeding grounds, especially when their own food
supplies are stretched. A good place to see them can be in the carpark
of some of our largest supermarkets, due to the presence of various
berry trees/bushes. Waxwings are very similar in size and shape
to a Starling, but upon closer inspection, you will see quite a
difference in the plumage colours. Listen out for their rather high
pitched, rolling, shrilly calls :) |
