Long-tailed Tit - Aegithalos caudatus

A very delicate looking bird (approx 15cm), the Long-tailed Tit certainly has a lot of courage. I learned only today (Dec 13 2005) how a small band of these gutsy birds mobbed a Kestrel, with two of them getting quite close to the bird of prey.

The first image was taken in March 2005, during my first time using the Canon 400mm lens; the second image December 2005

I particularly like the colours in the background of this shot. The bird was unusually obliging; but not for long :) Taken Saturday 18th March, 2006, at Mere Sands Wood, Lancashire.
