Hi,
my name is Tom. I am 41 years old. I live in Liverpool, a city on
the Northwest coast of England.
The Port of Liverpool was founded in 1207 AD and serves as a gateway
for the importing and exporting of goods from all over the world. Liverpool
is a very cosmopolitan and vibrant city, welcoming visitors from many
distant lands.
Despite
its industrial roots the whole region of Northwest England hosts a very
diverse collection of flora and fauna; providing a treasure chest of
subjects for any photographer.
Having been interested in wildlife since childhood, I was always keen
to learn about, name and record the things I saw. With the dawn of the
digital era, a medium to record and store images on a computer became
available and in turn, a fabulous way to share with others documented
moments of time and vision.
I have only been shooting in digital since the beginning of 2004;
first using a Nikon Coolpix 4500 camera, attached to my spotting
scope (known as digiscoping) then late 2004 I purchased a Canon
Eos 20D digital SLR, soon adding a Canon 400mm f/5.6 lens; and more
recently (late November, 2007) a Canon 500mm F/4 IS USM telephoto
lens. The capacity for learning photography, whether film or digital
is huge. Photography here in the UK, I believe, is very challenging.
Extremes of weather, light and temperature all play a big role in
enabling the photographer to produce very powerful and often moody
images. When I take a picture, Im looking for a shot that has interesting
light, texture, contrasts and atmosphere, seasoning each shot with
a flavour from that moment.
Whilst
I don't claim to be an expert with a camera, I do believe my passion
for photography and in particular natural history, enables me to produce
images that give me a lot of joy, and hopefully to other viewers of
my work.
Enjoy
your visit!
